That he is considered by many in the british Soul Scene as the most influential DJ in the last twenty years? That his record collection holds about 50 000 forty-fives, that he still digs out danceable ultra rarities and that in his dj history he was the first to play tunes like Delegates Of Soul – I`ll Come Running Back, Tony Galla – In Love, Jesse James – It`s Allright, The Hamilton Movement – She`s Gone, The New Wanderers – Ain`t Gonna Do You No Harm, Tolbert – I`ve Got It, The Saints – I`ll Let You Slide, Roy Roberts – Got To Have Your Love, Dave Charles – Ain`t Gonna Cry No More, The Imperial C`s – Someone Tell Her, The Sensations – Demanding Man, Kurt Harris – Emperor Of My Baby`s Heart, Robert Tanner – Sweet Memories oder Bob and Fred – I`ll Be On My Way? That he belongs to the regular djs of the 100 club and that he spends nearly every weekend to travel the world, inspiring soul fans? That Markus Gora would give his teeth for a cover up played by Butch at the Bamberg Weekender? Well, actually it is quite enough to say that we are very happy to have him with us at the weekender and advise everybody not to miss any of his sets. Pure magic!

Dass Markus Gora liebend gern seine Zähne für ein auf dem Bamberger Weekender von Butch gespieltes Cover-Up hergeben würde? Vielleicht genügt es auch nur zu sagen, dass wir uns sehr freuen, dass er auf dem Weekender auflegt und wir jedem nur raten können, keines seiner Sets zu verpassen. Reine Magie!

NANCY YAHIRO

Nancy Yahiro, California (USA) native, has been DJing since she was 17 years old, starting as a radio DJ at her university radio station.  Countries DJ 'd in include Argentina, England, Germany, Italy, Spain and of course the USA.  She is co-founder of the Golden State Soul Society in Los Angeles and has organized some of the best soul nights in California.  Nancy works as a record dealer selling original soul and jazz 45s internationally, and lives in Cortona (AR) with her partner, Gabriele, and their French Bulldog, Clark.

HENNING BOOGALOO

originally from Schleswig Henning moved to Lucerne (Switzerland) about 9 years ago. Shortly after he started regular local soul nights under the name Spin Club. As a yearly guest of the dresden soul weekender and also some Soulnighter in Germany, Italy and Switzerland he made some experiences. Henning's name "Boogaloo" doesn't really fit anymore cause his favourite sound is funky crossover, but when he plays his 45s he lokks as crazy behind the decks as a man dancing the boogaloo.

MARC FORREST

(Berlin / Hip City Soul Club)

Marc Forrest started DJing kind of accidentally at the former Mod Club Sigmundshof on New Year’s Eve 1986. He is regularly and exclusively playing soul music ever since as well as running the Hip City Soul Club Berlin since 1990. He almost went broke with the first German Soul Weekender which took place in 1990. He also did fanzines like „r&b time“ and „Grapevine“ as well as the radio shows „Soulful Shoes“ (Radio 100) and „Harlem Shuffle“ from the late 1980s to the mid 90s. After his first gig in London in 1991 he successfully played regular spots in Manchester, London’s 100 Club and the scandinavian soul nations Sweden and Norway.

Marc Forrest legt seit einem eher zufällig geborenen Engagement im damaligen Berliner Mod Keller Sigmundshof zum Silvesterfest 1986 regelmäßig und ausschließlich Soul auf. Seit 1990 veranstaltet er regelmäßig den Hip City Soul Club Berlin. 1990 trieb er sich beinahe mit dem ersten deutschen Soul Weekender in den Ruin. Bereits Ende der achtziger bis in die neunziger Jahre hinein kamen noch Fanzine Projekte wie etwa "r&b time" und "grapevine" wie auch eigene wöchentliche Radiosendungen wie "soulful shoes" (radio 100) und "Harlem shuffle" (MDR) hinzu. Nach dem ersten Gig in London 1991 hat er bereits erfolgreich regelmäßig in Manchester, Londons 100 Club und den skandinavischen Soulnationen Schweden und Norwegen aufgelegt.

LARS BULNHEIM

As promoter and resident of the "Shelter Club" and "Soul at the Mandarin Casino" Hamburg's local hero Lars Bulnheim has his unique collection spinning for quite a few years now. But Lars is also a nationwide and even European constant, you will regularly find him on the line up of in-demand soul events such as the Nuernberg and the Rimini Soul Weekender, just to name two. Though his musical focus is on 70s soul, excursions into the 60s are a natural part of his set. His magic touch in the selection of tunes and his feeling for the dancefloor guarantee exactly what a soul fan could wish for: danceable, stirring and soulful music!

Der Hamburger Lokalmatador Lars Bulnheim bringt seit vielen Jahren als Resident DeeJay und Veranstalter des 'Shelter Clubs' und 'Soul at the Mandarin Casino' seine einzigartige Plattensammlung zum Rotieren. Aber auch überregional ist Lars seit langem eine feste Größe, regelmäßig findet man ihn im Line Up anspruchsvoller Soul Events wie dem Nürnberger und dem Rimini Soul Weekender, um nur zwei zu nennen. Der musikalische Schwerpunkt liegt bei Lars auf Seventies Soul, Ausflüge zu den Sixties gehören aber selbstverständlich auch mit zum Programm. Das glückliche Händchen bei der Auswahl seiner Platten und das Gespür für den Dancefloor garantieren genau das, was man sich als Soul Fan wünscht: tanzbare, mitreißende beseelte Musik!

Our favourite vinyl dealer Thorsten from Hamburg – one part of www.puresoul.de is also with us! As he would have come to the weekender anyway, we talked him into bringing along some of his great 7“s and to play them in his very own style. Comments: „He always seems a bit scatterbrained“ or „He can barely use the equipment“. I would say: „You can dance on it for sure!“

Thorsten, unser Lieblings-Plattenhändler aus Hamburg, eine Hälfte von www.puresoul.de, ist auch dabei. Da er sowieso als Gast gekommen wäre, haben wir ihn ermuntert ein paar seiner tollen Platten mitzubringen und in seiner sehr eigenen Art aufzulegen. Kommentare: "Er wirkt stets etwas verhuschelt" oder aber "He can barely use the equipment" Ich würde sagen: Tanzbar auf jeden Fall!

When grandma's music shack stopped cooking up that lovely soul stew and the illegal dances were truly a thing of the past, the only way to get some of that sweet soul music was to Go West. Suddenly Granny's crumble pie as well as the crumbling wall made life then oh so very sweet indeed. This time with the ok from the boys in blue and no planned escape route laid out just in case, the Chain Gang Soundsystem and The Northern Soul Family Allnighter in Hamburg were now Right On Brothers!!!! After that, somehow a daytrip to London in 1996 turned into a decade of all kind of silliness. The odd backroom of a restaurant, where all sorts of things were dropped including vegetables & records, was just one of dem shebeens. Other places where the good old stomper was played next to some Jamaican wax by yours truly was Stereotonic, Copasetic Soundsystem, Reggae Shack and Mint. The last few years were spent either before, behind but very rarely underneath the decks @ For Dancers Only, Kings'n'Queens Sea Cruise, Atomic Cafe, Roter Salon, Hamburg Alldayer and of course the Northern Soul Allnighter @ Motte in Hamburg!!!!

Als Oma's Soul Platten nicht mehr ausreichten um die illegalen Tanzveranstaltungen zum Kochen zu bringen, brauchte man nun den Stoff direkt aus dem gelobten Abendland. Nun gab es endlich nicht nur Löcher im Käse, sondern auch einige in der dicken Wand und ab ging die Polonäse auch mal durch Blankenese. Diesmal aber ganz offiziell und ohne abenteuerliche Geschichten mit dem Chain Gang Soundsystem und dem Northern Soul Family Allnighter in Hamburg. Anno 1996 war dann Stunde X!!!! Aus einem Tagesausflug wurden dann mal eben 11 Jahre London. Der Stereotonic Club, Reggae Shack, Mint, Copasetic Soundsystem und das eine oder andere Italienische Hinterzimmer eines Restaurants waren nicht nur Orte für hektische Handbewegungen, sondern auch für musikalische Höheflüge und den ein oder anderen Backdrop. In den letzten Jahren kamen die 45 ziger dann öfters bei For Dancers Only, Kings'n'Queens Sea Cruise, Atomic Cafe, Roter Salon, Hamburg Alldayer und natürlich beim Northern Soul Allnighter in der Motte in Hamburg zum Einsatz.

TOLBERT

(Hamburg / Rare Pleasure Soul Club)

Tolbert is djing since the early 90s. Starting with rare groove sounds and funk, he more and more got into soul. His heart belongs especially to 70s and crossover soul. For a while being he is running the Rare Pleasure Soul Club nights in Hamburg. Eventually Tolbert will get himself everything from SOUL!

Tolbert legt seit Anfang der 90er Jahre Soul und Funk-Platten auf. Lag sein Schwerpunkt in der Musikauswahl zunächst auf Rare Groove Sounds und Funk, verlagerte sich dieser jedoch immer mehr hin zum Soul. Sein Herz hat Tolbert insbesondere an 70's und Crossover-Soul verloren. Seit einiger zeit veranstaltet er in Hamburg den Rare Pleasure Soul Club. Irgendwann holt sich Tolbertsen alles von SOUL!

BASTER

(Hamburg)

In Hamburg he is well-known as former host and resident DJ of the "For Dancers Only" Allnighters and besides he owns a music-bar in St. Pauli called "Komet". If he is not mixing drinks at his bar, he indulges himself in his passion for "oldie" music. Baster loves danceable R'n'B, he is looking forward to the Hamburg Soul Weekender and – according to his own proclamation – he fancies a "Schnaps" once in a while.

Baster wird gerade den Hamburger Gästen als ehemaliger Stamm-DJ der `For Dancers Only` Allnighter und Inhaber der `Komet` Musikbar auf St.Pauli bekannt sein. Wenn Baster gerade einmal keine Drinks mixt, geht er seiner eigentlichen Leidenschaft, dem Auflegen von `Oldie` Musik nach. Er liebt tanzbaren R`n`B, freut sich sehr auf den kommenden Weekender in Hamburg und trinkt nach eigenem Bekunden gern Schnaps!

THE JAN

(HH / For Dancers Only)

The Jan is an early mod from Hamburg. In the early 80s he started the mod fanzine „Modern Boys“ with Olaf Ott (Soul Allnighter). Today he books bands at Hamburg's Club Hafenklang. And once a month The Jan makes his audience spin to (mainly mid-tempo) Northern Soul and R'n'B treasures at „For Dancers Only“. He might give in to his hidden passion for modern soul at this weekend ...

The Jan ist Hamburger Mod der ersten Stunde. Bereits in den frühen 80er Jahren gründete er mit Olaf Ott (Soul Allnighter) das Mod Fanzine "Modern Boys". Mittlerweile ist er Band-Booker im Hafenklang. Und einmal im Monat bringt The Jan bei "For Dancers Only" sein Publikum mit (bevorzugt mid-tempo) Northern Soul und R"n"B Perlen zum Kreiseln. Seiner unausgelebten Leidenschaft für Modern Soul wird er möglicherweise an diesem Wochenende nachgeben ...

RALF MEHNERT

(Hamburg)

In 1986 a mini mod danced rather badly at Olaf Ott's and Leif Nüske's Christmas "Soul Allnighter" at the Kir/Hamburg and started buying his first Kent and Soul Supply compilations. At this point Ralf Mehnert could not know that his romantic teenage relationship would turn into a love affair lasting for more than twenty years now. He followed his first DJ appearance at the Kiel Scooterrun with sets at various scooter runs and allnighters all over Germany as well as at the "Cleethorpes Soul Weekender" and the "These Old Shoes Niter" in London. Until 2003 Ralf regularly played the "Turnin' Your Heartbeat Up" Weekender in Nuernberg. In 2006 he and The Jan decided to finally kick off the first Hamburg Soul Weekender.

1986 tanzte ein Mini-Mod eher schlecht als recht auf Olaf Otts und Leif Nüskes Weihnachts-Soul Allnighter im Kir herum und besorgte sich die ersten Kent und Soul Supply Sampler. Dass aus dieser teeniesk-romantischen Liaison eine nun schon 20 Jahre andauernde feste Beziehung wurde, konnte Ralf Mehnert damals nicht erahnen. Ersten DJ-Bemühungen auf dem Kieler Scooterrun 1987 folgten über die Jahre Sets auf diversen Scooterruns und Allnightern in Deutschland sowie dem Cleethorpes Soul Weekender und beim These Old Shoes Niter in London. Ralf legte bis 2003 regelmäßig auf dem Turnin`Your Heartbeat Up Weekender in Nürnberg auf. 2006 beschloss er mit The Jan, nun endlich auch in Hamburg den ersten Soul Weekender vom Stapel zu lassen.
